LMC Content Creation Contest

Everyone loves a contest so lets  have some fun this month with  "What did you create?"
5 more days to go on this months contest.

Have you designed something using the LMC templates? Then send a picture (full perm) of your outfit and a notecard telling us which templates, brushes or textures you used, how you did & a LM to your store to Niah Larsson.

All contestants will be presented in the LMC Gallery near the landing point. Your picture will include a short description of your design and a LM to your store. The winner will receive a LMC Gift Voucher of 3000L which can be used with all Lilleth Mills Couture dresses & templates.

How to enter

Fill out the application notecard and re-name it "LMC Creation Contest Entry - your name". All entries must be submitted to NIAH LARSSON  copy/mod/trans no later than 12PM SLT on April  1st 2009.

All designs must include at least one LMC template item, that can be a texture, a brush, an alpha shape, etc. which must be stated in the description notecard. It doesn't need to be recognizable in the finished design - even better if not. Show us how creative you are in using the templates and tell us how you did it!

Only one design can be submitted per person

Your entry must include a full perm picture, a short description which LMC item you used (exact names of the kit(s) and which part you used), a LM (or SLX link) and short description of your store.

The winner will be announced April 5th

All entries will be put up for display as soon as they are submitted and will be presented along with LM & notecard until April 5th.

How to import the LMC PS Brush Kits

Here is a quick simple guide on how to import the LMC PS Brushes using PS/Gimp/PSP

Please note I cannot guarantee that this always works but have provided a free Demo Brush for you to test it.

Download the Zip file and unpack it on your computer, not directly in any graphics application folder.

How to import the Brushes into PS

MAC

1) Open Photoshop

2) select the "brush" tool

3) Click the drop down arrow next to "Brushes: " on the top panel where you change size & parameter of the brush

4) click the little arrow on the top right of the drop down window

5) select "load brushes"

6) choose the .abr file you just saved on your computer

7) they will now show as options in your brush window

To view the brushes properly go to "Windows" - "Brushes" or press F5

OR

1) Open Photoshop

2) open the brush window - go to "Windows" - "Brushes" or press F5

3) Click the drop down button on the top right of the brushes window

4) select "load brushes"

5) choose the .abr file you just saved on your computer

6) they will now show as options in your brush window

WINDOWS

1) Open Photoshop

2) open the brush window - go to "Windows" - "Brushes" or press F5

3) Click the drop down button on the top right of the brushes window

4) select "load brushes"

5) choose the .abr file you just saved on your computer

6) they will now show as options in your brush window

GIMP

Tested in GIMP 2.6 and they "just work" when the .abr file is dropped into the users gimp brush folder, whether gimp is running on Vista 64bit, XP 32bit, Linux or Solaris

On Vista thats C:Users.gimp-brushes

On XP thats C:Documents and Settings.gimp-brushes

On Unix thats $HOME/.gimp-/brushes

In all cases above, replace with the userid logged in, and witht the installed gimp version. Simply copy the .abr file into the right directory and your brushes will be there next time they start gimp,

All you need to do is play with the opacity of the brush until it works the way you want. I loaded a TGA of a tshirt I made and added extra wrinkles across the body just fine with an opacity of 40%

I found a wonderful tutorial on how to use PS brushes in PSP

The Instructions are also included in the free LMC Demo Brush Kit

NEW Full Perm TGA Files

Due to several requests I have now added full perm .tga files of the LMC Alpha Template PSD File Kits.

Why do so if you can create exactly the same with the PSD files?

If you do not have a compatible graphics application or you simply don't want to go through the saving & uploading procedure you can simply purchase the full perm targa files which you will immediately receive In-World and get started!
Of course you can still save them to your hard drive for further use ... please note, if you do that you will not have as many modifying options as with the PSD files.

Basic Photoshop Tutorial using the LMC Alpha Templates

Getting started

Open the .psd file
You will see the basic template

Choose the folders in the drop down menu and select the shape you would like to work on.
cmd+click the layer to select it.
(you can also use the magic wand to select the white area)

Go to 'Select' - 'Save selection as...'
choose 'new' - type in Alpha

NOTE: if you already have an Alpha layer choose that layer and click 'replace channel'
There can only be ONE Alpha channel per file, or it wont be visible when you later save it as .tga

Click on the 'Channel' tab & click visibility for the Alpha layer
You will now see what will be visible on your avatar. The red part is where the skin will be shown.
NOTE: You can change the transparency of your top by filling the white on the Alpha with a gray shade. White = full visibility, Black = Hidden, 50% gray = sheer

Hide the top template layer in the 'alpha' folder
Add your own textures by creating a new layer or solid colour in the 'texture' Folder
Play around with the opacity of the shading & creases layers

Once you are done, hide the 'Upper guidelines' folder
Go to 'File' - 'save as ...'
Type in the name and select the directory
Choose .tga as file format

Select '32 bits/pixel
Done

Upload your file into SL and 'wear it' using the appearance mode

Happy Creating!

If you have trouble finding the "download button" click here

Megaupload has recently changed its appearance, it is now much simpler to download.

NOTE

The files are zipped be sure to unzip them to your hard drive (not in any graphics application folder) before trying to open them in your graphics application.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

The files are standard Photoshop CS .psd files. Make sure you have a standard graphics application that supports this format, for example PS, Gimp, Corel Draw etc.
Following applications have issues reading the psd files: Photoshop Elements, Paint Shop Pro. So double check your file support before purchasing. Or check out the free Demos to see if it works.

There is a trick to opening PS PSD files, as well as PS brushes in PSP. Read the FAQs below to see how.

GENERAL

When opening the file you will see the main CMFF Template. The alpha templates and/or textures are in separate layer folders/groups, be sure to click visibility. To learn more click HERE

FAQ

Download

Q: The link doesnt allow me to download or is dead
A: Megaupload sometimes can't handle strong traffic. Please try again after clearing your cache. If all fails contact Niah Larsson In-World and provide your email address, she will provide an alternative download link.

Q: There is only one file or no files in the folder after unzipping.
A: Yep that happens, but it doesn't mean the zip file was empty. It probably was damaged during downloading and/or the unpacking process. Please download and try again.

Q: I don't have the software to unzip the file, can I get the original files
A: No, but you should get one of the many free unzippers out there. The files are simply too big to distribute them via email or leaving them uncompressed.

System Requirements

Q: The psd file doesnt open, or it says invalid file format.
A: Try opening them in PS instead of double clicking the file, that often solves the issue.

Q: The psd file still doesnt open, or it says invalid file format.
A: Check if your application supports Photoshop CS .psd files. In case it doesnt you can edit and read the files with the free graphic application "Gimp".

Q: I use PSP and the files definitely will not open.
A: There is a trick to that....save the PSD file with Gimp under a different name, you should now be able to open them in PSP.

If you have missed checking your application before hand and all fails, I cannot refund you but sometimes can provide simple .tga files In-World which you can download and import to any graphics application. Note: the shadows & highlights will not be visible.

Q: I purchased the brushes and I can't open them if I double click them.
A: Import them using the brushes window. Go to PS and open the brushes window. Click on the little drop down menu arrow in the upper right corner, choose "load brushes", select the .abr file from your hard drive.

Q: How do I know if I can use the brushes with Gimp or PSP
A: Try the free demo brush

Working with the files

Q: I can only see the CMFF Template but not the Alpha templates
A: The Alphas are on separate layers in the "Alpha" folder/group. Klick HERE to learn more

Q: I saved the TGAs to my hard drive but the file doesn't have a clear background and/or vivid edges.
A: That happens when when the files are rendered as TGAs on your HD. Double click the background icon in the layers window to unlock it. Got to the channels tab and ctrl+click the channel icon to select it, press ctrl+c to copy. Now go to the file where you want the TGA and press ctrl+v to paste it to a new layer.
Or unlock the layer and select the alpha channels as described above, inverse selection (ctrl+shift+i), go to "edit" - "clear". you now have a clear background and can simply drag the layer.

Q: When I save my TGA I have a stupid white halo around it.
A: Create a new layer and put it behind your texture layer. Fill it with the same color as your texture or black.
